Rachel's Eggcellent Adventures in Chicken-Keeping
Howdy!
I’m Rachel and if you haven’t guessed it, I love chickens. My flock, myself, and my family live in the beautiful hillside of the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia). We reside on a single-acre hobby farm that was originally built sometime in the 1920s with the primary purpose of raising pigs for meat. There was a full-size, vintage chicken coop on the land when we purchased the property, in 2016. Once cleaned out, we kicked off our chicken journey and built out a portion of the building to house our first three chickens, and the rest was history!
I was raised from a young age in the Shenandoah Valley and met my husband in 2008. As of today, our family consists of two children, two cats (Tails and Elliott), a pup (Bentley), and of course, our feathered flock of just around 30 birdies.
I am in the process of publishing a book about raising backyard chickens and how they can lead you down a beautiful journey toward sustainable living practices. My book will be available for purchase in 2026!
